Mobile Community Kitchen & Eatery

Junior League of Binghamton’s current community focus is fighting food insecurity and providing essential needs to our neighbors in Broome and Tioga Counties.

For more than 95 years, the Junior League of Binghamton (JLB) has identified critical community needs and transformed bold ideas into lasting community assets—from the Discovery Center and Story Garden to the Kopernik STEM Park and ZooMobile. Today, JLB is partnering with CHOW to launch the Mobile Community Kitchen & Eatery, a fully equipped food truck that will bring free, nutritious meals directly to neighborhoods across Broome and Tioga Counties, where transportation barriers and food insecurity limit access to reliable food resources.

Funded through JLB and community partners, the Mobile Community Kitchen & Eatery will deliver hot meals and grab-and-go options on a rotating, data-informed schedule while providing a welcoming, stigma-free experience for all residents. Through the Drive to Thrive campaign, businesses and community supporters can help bring this first-of-its-kind solution to life—expanding food access, improving community well-being, and creating a lasting impact for families, seniors, rural residents, and others who need it most.

Les Aylesworth, Executive Director of CHOW said "When the Junior League of Binghamton approached me wanting to do a food truck that could bring fresh made meals to food deserts and utilize recovered food in the process, I almost couldn't believe it.  We were already working towards a prepared meal program (MANNA) and the alignment was uncanny. At CHOW, we're not afraid to try big, bold, innovative ways to STOP hunger, and neither is the Junior League. We couldn't be prouder to partner with them on this food truck project that is going to help so many folks who are struggling."

In addition to ongoing fundraising, we have also received support from local area partners such as Tioga Downs Regional Community Foundation Grant, The Community Foundation Grant, and The NAILBA Charitable Foundation Grant.

Our Mobile Kitchen is designed to reduce food insecurity for residents facing transportation and accessibility barriers while providing free, nutritious, ready-to-eat meals directly to individuals and families in underserved neighborhoods.
